画家・ガラスデザイナー
スウェーデンのLindesberg生まれ。
絵画を学び、パリにも留学。スウェーデンの戦後モダニズムのパイオニアの一人で、40年代終わりから50年代はじめにかけて具体絵画の作品を制作し、北欧の具体主義における指導的立場となった。幾何学的でコントラストのはっきりした作品は、シンプルでエレガントな魅力がある。絵画作品は晩年の1990年代になっても制作されている。 1952年、Bengt OrupはスウェーデンのガラスメーカーJohansforsのアートディレクターに就任し、ガラスが活動の中心となる。シンプルなフォルムに繊細な縦縞のラインを施した「Stripe」などの代表作があり、沢山の作品がスウェーデンの古典となった。1950年代から積極的にアメリカで展示会を行い、アメリカで成功した先駆的なデザイナーでもあった。 1968年にはロンドンのRoyal Collage of Artに客員講師として招かれ、ガラスデザイナーとしてのキャリアは頂点に達する。 1963-66年頃にはスウェーデンのガラスメーカーHyllingeでもデザインを手掛けている。
