Stig Lindbergは1916年スウェーデン、ウミュー生まれ。Stig Lindbergは1937年Gustavsbergに入社。1937～1940年の3年間Wilhelm Kageのアシスタントとしてセラミック製造を学ぶ。Wilhelm Kageの元で成長したStig Lindbergは1940年にGustavsbergの専属デザイナーになる。Stig Lindbergは57年～70年の13年間スウェーデンの王立美術学校で教授を勤め71年にGustavsbergに戻る。Wilhelm KageとStig Lindbergの活躍によりGustavsbergは黄金時代を迎える。第２次世界大戦後、Stig Lindbergはデザイナーとして広く認知されることとなる。セラミックはもちろんのことABC,Musikbussen,Krakel Spektakel Koper En Klubba の3冊の絵本やDaniel Doppsko,Krakel Spektakelの挿し絵を手掛けたりセラミックタイル・プラスティック製品・テキスタイルなど多岐にわたりデザインし活躍する。また日本では西武デパートの包装紙をデザインしている。現在の北欧ブームの火付け役もStig Lindbergといっても過言ではない。日本,アメリカなどのStig Lindberg再評価により本国スウェーデンでStig Lindbergの作品をまとめた作品集「Tusenkonstnaren」も発売される。Stig Lindbergはマルチに活躍したスウェーデンが誇る戦後最大の個人陶芸作家。1982年没。
