NY出身。23歳で雑誌「アパレルアーツ」「エスクァイア」のアートディレクターに就任。独自のデザイン、タイポグラフィの手法でデザイン界に大きな影響を与えた。広告・書籍のデザインや娘に捧げた妻アンとの共著、「sparkle and spin」等の３冊の絵本の挿絵でも素晴らしい作品を残している。アメリカが誇るデザイナーの一人。1996年没。
