Abner Graboffはニューヨークのデザイン学校でデザインを学ぶ。
1944年の第2次世界大戦ではArdennesにてドイツのパラシュート部隊に反撃にあうなどの戦争経験を体験する。
戦争後は広告業界で仕事をし本の装丁や絵本のイラストレーターとして活躍する。1958年にはThe New York Timesのアート審査員によりベスト10に入るイラストレーターとして紹介される。 Abner Graboffの作品はウィットとユーモアを兼ねそろえた作品が多く手法も写真のコラージュや切り絵を使ったデザインを得意とする。
Abner Graboffはグラフィックデザイナーでもあったためイラストの構図やバランスが色使いが巧みなため現在でも大人達を魅了する数多くのデザインを残す。代表作としてI know An Old LadyやThe Hungry Goatなどがある。
